EXAM PHOBIA - THE CAUSE OF SUICIDE

Phobia means being afraid of something and exam phobia means being afraid of examinations, specially of board examinations. The month of March - the month of examinations - is arriving. It causes a terror in students appearing in the examinations, particularly in the board examinations. But I think that the terror is not of appearing in the examinations but is of how well they perform. This terror or phobia is the result of pressure from a triangle, the triangle of parents, the school management (not of teachers) and the society. The parents put pressure on their wards to perform well in the examinations. It is not because they are concerned with their career but because of their prestige. They have to face their neighbors. If their children perform well in the examinations, they can move through the society with their heads held high. The school management has pressure on the students so that they can compete in the market with other schools. Yes, it is the market of schools to attract more students. They can boast of the results of the previous years in their advertisements. Here I am excluding the teachers out of management. It is not because I am a teacher but because as a teacher I know that a teacher understands his students and their abilities well. He wants his students to perform according to their capacities. If, otherwise, they put extra pressure on the students, they are themselves under the pressure of school management of losing their jobs. The third angle of the pressure triangle is the society that teases the students as a failure. The society look down upon these students. All these angles ultimately force a student to do suicide and the end of a youth chapter. Here, as a teacher, I would like to focus on the student and want to say him that he should ignore all these pressure and concentrate on his career. Yes, it is right that study is essential but not at the stake of a life. It is the student himself who has to decide what he wants to become in his life and the three angles, that is, the parents, the school management and the society must help him to achieve his aim in his life. They have to think twice before putting pressure on the children because it may cause them to take the path of suicide. Concluding this blog, I would like to say "TAKE THE EXAMINATIONS NOT AS ULTIMATE BUT AS ANOTHER ONE"

Keep waiting for my next blog " HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE EXAMS"
